Fifteen years ago we were approached by a member of the Royal House of Brunei to discuss their requirements for a new motor yacht project. Having seen our design for a 130m replacement for the Royal Yacht Britannia, they wished to work with us on designing a yacht which was and still remains to this day, the largest yacht in the world!

Following a contract signing with Luerssen Shipyard and Blohm & Voss, the 162m motoryacht Platinum project was secured and we began working on the project. The development of our concept GA's to the formal construction drawings was a very exciting time given the size and scale of the yacht.

However, after the steel hull and 90% of the superstructure was complete, as well as the interior fully designed and under construction, the project was stopped! Eventually the design was sold by Burgess to the new owners' and the rest, as they say is history...

Our Platinum design now sails as Motoryacht Dubai, resplendent in Andrew Winch Designs profile whilst her interior has been decorated and personalised in a different style by the new owner.

We are thrilled to announce that both Motoryacht Slipstream and Cloud 9 have been shortlisted for the 2010 World Superyacht Awards. Of all the yachts eligible for the category ‘Best Displacement Motor Yacht, approx 50m – 62m’, we are very proud to have not one, but two of our projects in the shortlisted group of ten yachts...more than any other Designer!

The World Superyacht Awards ceremony will take place at the Guildhall this coming weekend, as we wait with anticipation for the impending results, we hope to continue with similar success to last year’s proceedings where we won the ‘Best In Class’, ‘Best Yacht of the Year’ as well as the coveted ‘Best Interior of the Year’ for our 133m Motoryacht Al Mirqab.

The World Superyacht Award is a celebration of the best of the best in Superyacht build and design. Its’ unique award system recognises the dedication and passion of the yacht owners as well as the talents of their builders, interior contractors, naval architects and designers. The judging panel consists predominantly of Superyacht owners who are able to pass a unique opinion on the shortlisted selection which is supported by each judge physically visiting the shortlisted projects and experiencing firsthand the quality and overall design of each yacht.
