Andrew Winch returns to his roots...

Delivered in 1986, the 103 foot Whirlwind was for her time, the largest Sloop sailing yacht to be built in the world!

Designed by Ron Holland and built by Royal Huisman, the team was assisted by a then unfamiliar designer to the industry, Andrew Winch. Whilst working for the late Jon Bannenburg, Andrew assisted the Owner's family with the interior decoration. Since Whirlwind's delivery in 1986, she has proceeded to explore the seas with her Owners, Noel and Sylvia Lister, and achieved two circumnavigations of the world's oceans before ending her cruising adventures.

Continuing the Whirlwind story Noel Lister's son, Paul Lister, and his business partner Otto De Jager, have bought a beautiful Hook designed Sloop, built at the award winning Dutch Shipyard, Holland Jachtbauw. In honour of the family's sailing legacy she has been renamed, Whirlwind!

With Whirlwind's first charter confirmed for July 2011, Andrew Winch Designs were given a total of only three and a half weeks to design and complete a refit fit for a luxurious charter Sailing Yacht. In that time, our experienced Interior Decoration team were able to design, produce and install a full decorative refit, whilst ensuring our signature of quality and detail embodied the design.

Andrew Winch Designs has ensured that the elegence, comfort and relaxed atmosphere synomyous to the history of her namesake has been retained throughout. From the custom carpets and soft furnishings, to the privately commissioned china, glassware and accessories, SY Whirlwind has undergone a sparkling transformation.

Joining both the original and new generation of Whirlwind Clients, Andrew attended the official launch party of the latest SY Whirlwind in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. We would like to wish Whirlwind and all who sail in her, a very happy maiden charter season and hope that she will continue to cruise the oceans and visit the unique national reserves enjoyed by her predecessor Whirlwind XIV.
